A certain Buddhist monk (or similar, Lama, I do not know) had approved prayer wheels that had DVDs with the mantra "om mani padme hum" (as text files) as many times as the DVD could possibly contain. Then these were lined up on a physical wheel and spun, not with a disc drive, just spun manually. If interested, this was called "Tibet-Tech prayer wheel." That could be to involve personal energy. CDs and DVDs spin hundreds to thousands of times per minute.

Personally, I think it's slightly cumbersome, as you would need a dedicated spinner for them. Less and less people have CD/DVD writers/readers, too. Edit 2: whoops the spinner idea...
